The Directorate of Secondary Education, Assam has announced the NMMS Examination 2026 for students studying in Class VIII. The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) is a scholarship programme designed to support meritorious students from economically weaker families and encourage them to continue their studies.

As per the notification, the NMMS Exam Assam 2026 will be conducted for students of Class VIII for the academic session 2026–27. The examination will be held across 169 examination centres in Assam.

NMMS Exam Assam 2026 Exam Date

According to the notification, the NMMS Examination 2026 will be held on: Date: 28 November 2026 (Saturday)

The examination will be conducted at 169 examination centres across Assam. Students should check their e-Admit Card carefully after it is issued to know their allotted examination centre and other examination-related details.

NMMS Scholarship 2026 Eligibility

Students must fulfil the prescribed conditions to be considered for the NMMS scholarship.

The important eligibility conditions are:

  • The student must be studying in a Government or Provincialised School.
  • The student’s parental annual income must be ₹3.50 lakh or less.
  • The student must be studying in Class VIII for the relevant academic session.
  • Students must complete the required registration and application process within the given deadline.
  • The correct UDISE Code of the school must be provided during the application process.

The Assam state quota for the NMMS scholarship is 2,411 students.

Students Not Eligible for the Scholarship

Students studying in the following institutions may appear in the examination, but they will not be considered for the NMMS scholarship:

  • Private Schools
  • Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs)
  • Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs)

Therefore, students should carefully check their eligibility before submitting the application.

NMMS 2026 OTR Registration

Before filling out the NMMS Exam 2026 application form, students are required to complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

The OTR information should be entered correctly while completing the examination application. Students should also keep their registration details safely for future reference.

UDISE Code is Mandatory

Students must provide the correct UDISE Code of the Government or Provincialised School where they are currently studying.

NMMS Exam Fee Exemption

  • The notification also provides an examination fee exemption for eligible students from Government and Provincialised Schools.
  • Each Government and Provincialised School has to enrol at least the top three eligible students for the NMMS Examination 2026 whose parental annual income does not exceed ₹3.50 lakh.
  • The Directorate will exempt the examination fee for the top three eligible students from each school whose parental annual income is below ₹3.50 lakh. However, if a student has already paid the examination fee, the amount will not be refunded.
  • For schools under the Sixth Schedule Areas and the Bodoland Territorial Region, the top five eligible students from each school, whose parental annual income is below ₹3.50 lakh, will be exempted from payment of the examination fee.

Important Process for Fee Exemption

After students submit their individual application forms, the Head of the Institution (HoI) has to prepare a list of the eligible students containing their:

  • Name
  • Application ID
  • NSP OTR Number

The list is to be submitted to the concerned Inspector of Schools on or before 27 October 2026 for processing of the examination fee exemption.

After that, the concerned Inspector of Schools will compile the information received from the institutions and submit the consolidated list in Excel format to the Directorate on or before 31 October 2026.

This process is important for the timely issue of e-Admit Cards to the recommended students.

NMMS Exam Assam 2026 Apply Last Date

The last date for online application is 8 November 2026.

Students should not wait until the last day to submit the form. It is better to complete the application process early so that there is enough time to correct any issue related to OTR registration, school details, UDISE Code or other information.
